The
Theory Test.
Passing your theory is not only necessary but is
one of the key points to being a safe driver. You must pass your theory
before you can book a practical test and your theory certificate lasts
for 2 years.
The theory test consists of two elements:
- The first element is multiple choice, consisting of 35 randomly selected
questions. This section is designed to test your understanding of the
theory behind driving. Click

- The second element is the Hazard Perception Test (HPT) and is designed
to test your awareness of potential hazards whilst driving.
What do you need to know?
- Improves the general knowledge of all new drivers
- 35 randomly chosen multiple choice questions covering all aspects
of driving
- Touch screen computer technology for ease of use
- You can have an on screen practice before your test starts and you'll
find staff available to help you understand the system
- Only one question is displayed at a time
- You can scroll backwards and forwards through questions and flag any
you might want to go back to
- The computer will alert you if you haven't answered all parts of a
particular question, some questions may require more than one correct
answer
- You must score at least 30 correct answers to pass
- You'll have 40 minutes to complete the test
