The Theory Test.

Passing your theory is not only necessary but is one of the key points to being a safe driver. You must pass your theory before you can book a practical test and your theory certificate lasts for 2 years.

The theory test consists of two elements:

• The first element is multiple choice, consisting of 35 randomly selected questions. This section is designed to test your understanding of the theory behind driving. Click here for a sample test.
• The second element is the Hazard Perception Test (HPT) and is designed to test your awareness of potential hazards whilst driving.

What do you need to know?

• Improves the general knowledge of all new drivers
• 35 randomly chosen multiple choice questions covering all aspects of driving
• Touch screen computer technology for ease of use
• You can have an on screen practice before your test starts and you'll find staff available to help you understand the system
• Only one question is displayed at a time
• You can scroll backwards and forwards through questions and flag any you might want to go back to
• The computer will alert you if you haven't answered all parts of a particular question, some questions may require more than one correct answer
• You must score at least 30 correct answers to pass
• You'll have 40 minutes to complete the test
